<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pulse multiplexing unit, which uses a simple and inexpensive device structure in an optical system, can produce an optical pulse train from an incident optical pulse, and can selectively produce a predetermined optical pulse or an optical pulse train among the producible optical pulse trains. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An optical pulse selection emission element 1 is formed into a disk shape. The disk-shaped element is divided into 16 sections in the circumferential direction and is divided into four sections in the radial direction so as to correspond to predetermined positions O1-O4 aligned in the radial direction, so that 64 regions (CM1-1, CM1-2, CM1-3, CM1-4) are formed, and the respective areas are constructed by properly making a selection among a half mirror HM, a mirror M, and a transmission substrate PL. For emitting an optical pulse or optical pulse train complying with a request, a combination of corresponding HM, M, and PL is selected manually or automatically for the positions that match the predetermined positions O1-O4, and thereby a desired optical pulse or optical pulse train is emitted.
