<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic thermometer capable of determining the contact state of human body without direct electrical effects on the body. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The electronic thermometer includes: a hollow probe 3 having a temperature measurement part 3a having a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature; a light source 7 disposed in the hollow part of the probe 3; and a window part 3b which is formed in an area which, together with the temperature measurement part 3a of the probe 3, is in contact with a part of user's body when the temperature measuring part 3a is in contact with the part to be measured of the user, and can transmit light emitted from the light source 7 to the outside of the probe 3.
