<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic position detection device for detecting a position while maintaining high reliability even if the position of a subject to be detected is detected by a magnetic resistance effect sensor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This magnetic position detection device includes: a magnetic resistance effect sensor 120 consisting of a first magnetic detection part made of magnetic resistant elements M11-M14, M21-M24 consisting of a fine magnetic resistant film having a narrow wire width and a second magnetic detection part made of magnetic resistant elements M31-M34, M41-M44 consisting of a magnetic resistant film having a large wire width; and a magnet for applying a magnetic field to this sensor 120. The magnetic position detection device detects the position in the direction along the central axis m of the magnet based on the ratio value of the respective values of the sensor sensitivity of the first and the second magnetic detection parts, and the position in the rotating direction centered around the central axis m of the magnet is detected based on an output signal from the first magnetic detection part.
