The invention relates to a device for the treatment of fibrous material which is suitable for the manufacture of paper or cardboard. Said device comprises e.g. a stator set (1) and a rotor set (2) which have a plurality of respective annular concentric elevations (4, 4', 4', 4'', 5, 5', 5', 5''). When operated, the sets are positioned relative each other in such a manner that at least one elevation of a set extends into the interstice between two elevations of a complementary set. The annular elevations (4, 4', 4', 4'', 5, 5', 5', 5'') have grooves on their working surfaces. In a specific embodiment, the annular elevations (4, 4', 4', 4'', 5, 5', 5', 5'') can be interrupted in defined positions of the periphery. The novel sets improves the effect of the treatment and makes it more even.
