<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum brake, whose size can be easily reduced by making a distance between a brake lever and a center portion of a backing plate longer than that of a conventional drum brake. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On an adjusting lever 54, tool engaging teeth 54f are provided for transmitting the force of a tool 66 to the adjusting lever 54 so that the tool 66 inserted through the backing plate 16 is used for the adjusting lever 54 to make engaging teeth 54d disengage from latch teeth 52g against the energizing force of a spring 64 and to turn the adjusting lever 54. The tool 66 is used for the adjusting lever to make the engaging teeth 54d engage with the latch teeth 52g via the tool engaging teeth 54f nearly at an initial position. Thus, a space between the ends of a pair of brake shoes 18, 20 is reduced to eliminate the need for providing a stopper part on a shoe hold-down device. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
