<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image density measuring method for reproducing precisely and easily a color. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This image density measuring method has a medium spectral characteristic detecting process for detecting a spectral characteristic of an image carrying medium 17, an all-over spectral characteristic detecting process for detecting a spectral characteristic of an all-over image 21 formed tightly on the image carrying medium 17, using colored powder of an optional color, a half spectral characteristic detecting process for detecting a spectral characteristic of an optional half-tone image 22 formed on the image carrying medium 17, using the same colored powder, and an area ratio drawing-out process for finding an area ratio of the colored powder in the optional half-tone image 22, based on the spectral characteristic of the image carrying medium 17, the spectral characteristic of the all-over image 21 and the spectral characteristic of the optional half-tone image 22.
