<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce printing costs by prolonging the life of a key and extending a replacement cycle of a drive color. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device applies heat and pressure to an unfixed toner image, formed on a recording medium, in the pressure contact area of a pair of fixing rollers disposed in pressure contact with each other, thereby fixing the toner image to the surface of the recording medium. The fixing device includes a driving force transmission mechanism. The mechanism is configured in the manner described below. An end of at least one of the pair of fixing rolls has a key groove extending along the axial direction of the roll, and a driving force transmission shaft is provided with the key that engages with the key groove. The key and an abutting plate are inserted in the key groove, and the driving force of the driving force transmission shaft is transmitted to the fixing roll by the contact of the key and abutting plate.
