The system (1) has an alertness control module (40) for detecting and evaluating an effective user reaction via an input unit (42). The module produces and outputs a control alarm signal (41), when the reaction does not corresponds with a preset user reaction. An evaluation and control unit (20) merges a virtual event (44, 46) with actual images of monitoring areas (2), where the images are detected by image pick-up devices (12-18) e.g. cameras. The control unit displays the merged event on an optical display unit (30). An independent claim is also included for a method for alertness control of a user.
