PURPOSE: A method for recovering a contaminated electrolyte from an electrolytic cell used in the production of gaseous fluorine is provided to reduce the amount of polluted electrolyte which needs to be transferred to a waste disposal facility in whole. CONSTITUTION: A method for recovering a contaminated electrolyte from an electrolytic cell used in the production of gaseous fluorine is as follows. Polluted electrolyte is moved to a processing tank from a cell. A lithium compound is added to the polluted electrolyte within the processing tank in order to induce sedimentation of at least a part of metallic ion. A collected electrolyte is formed by removing the metallic ion from the bottom of the processing tank. The collected electrolyte is returned into the cell.
