MACHINING METHOD AND PROCESSING MACHINE

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of deterioration in working accuracy due to changeover of a quadrant independently of a special structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method of machining a grinding wheel 48 by a dressing tool 24 to make a sectional shape of a whetstone surface into an arcuate form is disclosed. In the method, the following steps are successively carried out: a step (1) of feeding the dressing tool 24 in the axial direction from one of ends of the grinding wheel 48 to the other end and also feeding it in a radial direction outward from the radial center of the wheel 48 thereby machining the wheel 48 to a position of the maximum diameter, a step (2) of separating the dressing tool 24 from the grinding wheel 48 and thereafter inverting the feed direction in the radial direction and again bringing the tool 24 into contact with the wheel 48, and a step (3) of radially feeding the dressing tool 24 in the feed direction after inverted and also axially feeding the dressing tool 24 thereby machining the wheel 48 from the position of the maximum diameter to a predetermined terminal machining position.
