<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical device by which the inside of a hollow body or the inside of an article is effectively and easily gripped to be supported safely. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The mechanical device comprises a grasp action device 11 having a supporting head 14 for holding a narrowed-down inactive position and an spread active position, a split rod 12 inserted in the grasp action device movable between first and second positions to define narrowed-down and spread positions of the grasp action device, and a manipulation lever 13 supported by the supporting head and connected to the split rod to cause the movement of the split rod between the first position where the device is at a narrowed-down position and the second position where the grasp action device is at a spread position.
