<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for bridging a gap between freight elevator sills, smoothly loading/unloading a cart in/from a car by a simple and inexpensive structure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This device for bridging the gap between the freight elevator sills includes sill straddle plates 64, 66, 68 stored in a folded state in a car pillar portion 24 positioned lateral to a car doorway. When the car 16 reaches a floor and a door is opened, the sill straddle plates 64, 66, 68 are unfolded from the folded state by being rotated around their lower portions and brought down onto a car floor 17a.
