PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic amide compound, by which the aromatic amide compound used as an industrial chemical, especially a color photographic photo-sensitive material, and having a sufficiently high quality can industrially easily be produced. SOLUTION: Provided is the method for producing the aromatic amide compound represented by formula (4) (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>is a lower alkyl; R<SB>2</SB>to R<SB>4</SB>are each H or a lower alkyl group), comprising catalytically reducing an o-nitrophenol compound in the presence of a platinum-based catalyst in a≤10C aromatic inactive solvent to obtain the o-aminophenol compound, and then condensing the o-aminophenol compound with a phenoxyalkanoic chloride having a sulfur content of≤0.5% (based on the weight of the acid chloride) in an oxygen concentration of≤1% without isolating the o-aminophenol compound to obtain the aromatic amide compound represented by formula (4), characterized by including a process for evaporating the aromatic inactive solvent under reduced pressures to crystallize the aromatic amide compound after the amidation condensation reaction.
