PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device which is inexpensive in manufacturing in comparison with the conventional product when performing matching processing in character recognition. SOLUTION: The character recognition device includes: an external memory 12 for storing dictionary data, feature data of a recognition target character, and a distance between feature data of each character registered in the dictionary data and the feature data of the recognition target character; a host PC 20 for transferring the dictionary data and the feature data of the recognition target character to the external memory 12; and a vector operation pipe 15 for calculating a distance about the dictionary data and the feature data of the recognition target character by a vector operation to store the distance in the external memory 12, wherein the host PC 20 makes the vector operation pipe 15 perform calculation to perform character recognition on the basis of the distance stored in the external memory 12.
