A method for coating components made of fibre-reinforced composite material, involves (a) coating the component surface with a compound of organic and metallic components by a thermal spray process to form a coupling layer, (b) applying a mainly metallic interlayer by thermal or kinetic spraying and (c) applying a functional outer layer of metal, metal-carbide composite, oxide-ceramic or mixtures of these by thermal or kinetic spraying.
