PURPOSE: A blade breakage and abrasion detecting device is provided to detect simultaneously the damage and wear quantity. CONSTITUTION: The blade breakage and abrasion detecting device includes the detecting unit(3), the mobile tool, and the controller(10). The detecting unit is installed in the side of a blade. The detecting unit includes the light-transmitting part(24), and the photo diode(25). The light-transmitting part projects the light of a circular towards a blade. The photo diode is installed between the blades and faced with the light-transmitting part. The photo diode light receives the light from the light-transmitting part to the light-receiving region of a circular. The mobile tool moves the detecting unit to the center of rotation of a blade. The controller detects the damage of a blade based on the change of the amount of light and the controller computes the quantity of wear of a blade.
