The device i.e. feeder (1), has transport augers (13, 14) passed in a conveyor direction (18) and enagaged into sheets (2) at sheet rear edges (2.2). A sheet transport unit and a sheet acceleration unit (43) are provided between front edge stops (7) and a pneumatic cylinder (49), where the sheet acceleration unit is downstream to the sheet transport unit. The sheet acceleration unit is directly downstream to the front edge stops. A gripper (44) or a gripper drum is provided as the sheet acceleration unit. Feed marks (48) are attached to the gripper or the gripper drum.
