The device (10) has an ultrasonic transducer for conversion of ultrasound of the predetermined frequency into electrical signals and for converting of electrical signals into ultrasound of the predetermined frequency. An ultrasound channel is formed in a holder and the ultrasonic transducer is partly arranged in an ultrasound channel. The holder has a non-fibrous surface layer adjacent to a section of the ultrasound channel, whose impedance is smaller than the inner layer of the holder adjacent to the surface layer. The syntactic foam contains hollow glass balls. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an ultrasonic sensor for verifying value documents with a device (2) an ultrasonic sensor for inspecting value document in a detection area of the ultrasonic sensor by the ultrasound of predetermined frequency (3) a value document processing device for processing of value documents with a device.
