An exhaust gas cooling system comprising an exhaust gas-processing tower (3) arranged to spray cool water into the exhaust gas to condense water present in the exhaust gas by cooling the exhaust gas, a cooling tower (9) arranged to cool water from the exhaust gas-processing tower (3) by using heat of vaporization, and a passageway (13) that fluidly connects the exhaust gas-processing tower (3) and the cooling tower (9). The exhaust gas-processing tower (3) is arranged to collect the condensed water together with the sprayed water at a bottom of the exhaust gas-processing tower (3), and to supply at least a portion of the condensed water to the cooling tower (9) through the passageway (13) in order to make up water lost by the vaporization.
