The present invention provides a coating method and a coating device that can both prevent the occurrence of streaks and nonuniform application. A coating device (10) includes an approximately cylindrical bar (14) arranged to come into contact with a traveling web (12), and a feed device that feeds coating solution to the entry side of the web (12) relative to the bar (14). Spiral grooves (32) inclined at an angle of 20 degrees to 70 degrees (both inclusive) with respect to a plane orthogonal to the central axis (L) of the bar (14), and smooth portions (34) with which the web (12) comes into contact at a percentage of 20% or more are formed on the surface of the bar (14).
