The engine (1) has cylinders each comprising two exhaust outlets (11, 12). The outlet (11) is connected to a turbine (3) of a main turbocharger, and operated only when a pressure of the corresponding cylinder is higher than a boost pressure provided by a compressor (2) of the turbocharger. The outlet (12) is operated only when the cylinder pressure is lower than the boost pressure. The compressor is mounted upstream of an inlet (10) of the cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a method for managing functioning of a two-stroke diesel engine.
