PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dimmer, an illuminator and a projector which can be downsized. SOLUTION: The dimmer 5 adjusting transmitted light quantity of luminous flux made incident is equipped with: a driving means 52 generating driving force; a pair of turning members 54 and 55 having a turning axis nearly in an orthogonal direction to a center axis of the luminous flux and turning by the driving force; a pair of light shielding plates 56 and 57 respectively held by the pair of turning members, inserted in a transmission area TA of the luminous flux from the outside as the turning members rotate, and intercepting at least a part of the luminous flux; and a holding member 51 holding the driving means 52 and the pair of turning members 54 and 55. The respective turning members 54 and 55 are equipped with holding parts 541 and 551 holding the light shielding plates 56 and 57 at positions where the turning axes C1 and C2 of the turning members 54 and 55 are not superposed on the light shielding plates 56 and 57 held by the turning members 54 and 55.
