PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission that achieves forward eight speeds while having three sets of planetary gears and six friction elements and enables the acquisition of a lower integration idling speed ratio, especially, in a forward speed change. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission includes a front planetary gear, a mid-planetary gear, and a rear planetary gear. An input shaft IN is always connected with a rear sun gear RR-S. An output shaft OUT is always connected to a rear carrier RR-PC. A front sun gear FR-S is always locked to a transmission case 1. A mid-ring gear MID-R and a rear ring gear RR-R are always connected with each other by a first rotating member M1. A front ring gear FR-R and a mid-sun gear MID-S are always connected with each other by a second rotating member M2. There are provided a low&reverse brake L&R/B, a clutch 146/C, a clutch 38/C, a mid-clutch MID/C, a high&reverse clutch H&R/C, and a clutch 7/C so as to achieve forward eight speeds and reverse one speed.
