PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit variation of air-fuel ratio and prevent deterioration of emission by inhibiting hunting of fuel pressure in a fuel supply device for an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a feed pump (fuel pressure-feed means) 83 pressurizing fuel and pressure-feeding the same as low pressure fuel, a high pressure fuel pump (pressure raising means) 85 raising pressure of the low pressure fuel and pressure-feeding the same as high pressure fuel, a high pressure chamber 103 as a fuel passage making the low pressure fuel from the feed pump 83 pass therethrough without raising pressure by the high pressure fuel pump 85, injectors (fuel injection means) 62, 63 injecting the low pressure fuel or the high pressure fuel to combustion chambers 22, 23, and ECU (fuel control means) 70 controlling stop and operation of pressure rise of the low pressure fuel by the high pressure fuel pump 85 according to an engine operation state. When the high pressure fuel pump 85 is changed over from a stop state to an operation state, the ECU 70 cancels the change over if it is determined that a vehicle is in a gentle acceleration state.
