PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a required image file to be easily searched from among a group of recorded image files. SOLUTION: A set button 25 to set to the on/off position is provided in the operating section of an electronic endoscope 10. With the set button 25 set to the on position, when an image recording button 24 is operated, a CPU 50 generates an image file by compressing a freeze image captured into an image memory 54 by a compression circuit 55, records the image file in a folder of an internal memory 56, and records the file name in a management file in a folder 70 as identification information of the image file. With the set button 25 set to the off position, when the image recording button 24 is operated, the CPU 50 records only the image file in a folder of the internal memory 56 without recording the file name in the management file.
