PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary tool for friction stir welding capable of increasing the joining strength of metal members having different melting points with each other. SOLUTION: The rotary tool X for friction stir welding to supply friction heat to metal members A, B so as to join the metal members A, B having different melting points to each other includes a columnar tool body 10, and a probe 20 which is smaller in diameter than the tool body 10, projected on one end of the tool body 10 coaxially with the tool body, and integrally rotated with the tool body 10. A plurality of cutting blades 21 are projected on the circumferential surface of the probe 20, and the plurality of cutting blades 21 are distributed and arranged in the circumferential direction of the probe 20 at the positions of different height in the probe 20.
