PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set which automatically change a time-out period of positioning by a GPS function so as to suit a usage state of the portable telephone set. SOLUTION: The portable telephone set is provided with a folding-type cabinet, a GPS receiver 20, an opening/closing detection unit 35 which detects an opening/closing state of the cabinet, and a time-out period changing unit 32. The GPS receiver 20 starts the positioning based on signals from GPS satellites, and stops the positioning if the positioning does not finish in the time-out period. The time-out period changing unit 32 establishes a time-out period as a first period when the cabinet is an opening state, and a time-out period as a second period longer than the first period when the cabinet is a closing state.
