PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom system for an apartment, which can report emergency situation to portable master units even if a speech communication line becomes full in emergency. SOLUTION: Upon receiving an emergency signal, a control section 71 of a control machine 7 checks the use situation of a speech communication line. If there is no free speech communication line, a mail describing that the speech communication line is unavailable, in addition to what kind of fault has occurred in what dwelling unit, is created based on mail data stored in a memory 73, and an exchange 6 is commanded to transmit that mail to portable master units 5 through a base station 52.
