PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide metal nanoparticles covered with a compound having no cyano group, and stably dispersible into a liquid crystal mixture without reducing a voltage holding rate, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a liquid crystal display using the metal nanoparticles. SOLUTION: In the method for producing metal nanoparticles, the metal ions of metal species including at least one selected from silver, palladium, platinum, rhodium and ruthenium are reduced in a state where at least one organic molecule selected from a compound group containing a carbon-nitrogen double bond (C=N) is made coexistent.
