PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonyl compound to deliver CO to a physiological object or target for giving physiological effects. SOLUTION: The present invention provides any of following compounds from (1) to (4): (1) CO released by dissociation of the metal carbonyl is present in the composition in dissolved form; (2) on contact with a solvent the metal carbonyl releases CO; (3) on contact with a tissue, organ or cell, the metal carbonyl releases CO; (4) on irradiation, the metal carbonyl releases CO. As a concrete example, the metal carbonyl is used for releasing CO having physiological activity such as vasodilation and suppression of rejection symptoms after transplantation.
