PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and its focus control method in which a focus position of an objective lens can be detected even in any case of the traverse setting and longitudinal setting of an optical disk device. SOLUTION: When the focus position of the objective lens 2 cannot be detected using the prescribed negative side drive signal which moves the objective lens 2 in the direction of keeping away from an optical disk 50 and the prescribed positive side drive signal which moves the objective lens 2 in the direction of approaching to the optical disk 50, the minimum value of the prescribed negative side drive signal and the maximum value of the positive side drive signal are set to low values by prescribed quantities, and then, a focus position of the objective lens 2 is detected again.
