PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core material of a charging member cleaner, capable of efficiently removing extraneous matters on a surface of a charging member, and accordingly capable of extending the service life of the charging member. SOLUTION: In the core material for the charging member cleaner used for cleaning the surface of the charging member of an image forming apparatus while being kept in contact with the surface of the charging member, the area of a cross-section perpendicular to the lengthwise axial center is, at least in a cleaning area, smaller than the area of a circumcircle whose center is located at the center of the cross-section.
