PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a relative position of a distal part of an insertion section of a balloon endoscope within the body of a patient. SOLUTION: In order to carry out an endoscopic examination, a patient 10 first swallows a capsule endoscope (CE) 11. A doctor selects CE image data (focused point image data) of an observed position suspected of an affected area (a focused point) from CE image data acquired by the CE 11. After the selection, the doctor selects CE image data (first to Znd route point image data) of observed positions located on an endoscope insertion route R from a mouth 10a to a focused point (first to Znd route points). When an endoscope examination using a balloon endoscope (BE) 31 is started, an endoscope examination system determines whether or not BE image data acquired by the BE 31 and the point image data of each point selected beforehand by the doctor resemble with each other.
