PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a cylindrical grinding method capable of selectably switching a center support structure of a workpiece to a dead center system and a live center system, superior in general-purpose properties, and significantly shortening the cycle time with high precision. SOLUTION: A spindle center 10 is rotatably pivoted by a spindle head 1 and is connected and driven with/by a drive motor 13, being a spindle rotation drive source, and a workpiece rotation part 11 is provided for driving workpiece W to rotate. A tailstock center 20 is rotatably pivoted by a tailstock 2 and connected and driven with/by the drive motor 24, and a tailstock pressure adjustment part 21 is provided for adjusting a tailstock pressure in an axial direction of the tailstock 2. Both centers 10 and 20 are designed to function as a live center or a dead center automatically and selectively, thereby developing a cylindrical grinding method superior in general-purpose properties and capable of significantly shortening the cycle time with high precision.
