PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a highly precise, non-rotationally symmetric optical element by suppressing eccentricity causing lateral or rotational slippage of an optical plane. SOLUTION: A die assembly 20 is equipped with an upper die 22, a lower die 24, a sleeve 26 and a rotation-preventing member 27, provided that the sleeve 26 has a round through-hole 26a. The upper die 22 and the lower die 24 have molding planes 22b and 24b, respectively, on their opposing end faces, and their side faces can be fit into the through-hole 26a of the sleeve 26. A manufacturing method of the optical element comprises: a step of assembling the die assembly 20 by fitting the lower die 24 and the rotation-preventing member 27 into the through-hole 26a of the sleeve 26, placing a molding material 30 on the molding plane 24a of the lower die 24 and fitting the upper die 22 into the through-hole 26a of the sleeve 26; and a step of molding the molding material 30 into a desired shape by pressing and deforming the heated and softened molding material with the molding plane 22b of the upper die 22 and the molding plane 24b of the lower die 24.
