PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a relatively small transverse object at a high speed. SOLUTION: A transmitting part 21 scans beams of electromagnetic waves in a transverse direction of the transverse object. A receiving part 22 receives reflected waves of the beams. A detecting part 23 detects the direction of the object irradiated with the beams to the transmitting part 21 by the reflected waves. A camera 12 images a range including a scanning range of the transmitting part 21. An extracting part 42 extracts an image in the direction of the object as an object existence area image from the image picked up by the camera 12 on the basis of only the direction of the object. A detecting part 43 detects a transverse object among objects on the basis of the object existence area image. The invention is applicable to, for example, a transverse object detection device.
