PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polyphenylene sulfide fibers by which polyphenylene sulfide fibers having high strength and high elongation, and excellent thermal dimensional stability can be produced with little fluffs and yarn breakage, that is, high grade and good yarn producing properties, and to provide the polyphenylene sulfide fibers having the excellent thermal dimensional stability. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyphenylene sulfide fibers includes taking off a non-stretched yarn after spinning at a speed of take-off rolls of 500-1,000 m/min, pre-stretching the yarn at a ratio of 1.03-1.09 between the take-off rolls and a feed roll at 80-100°C temperature, then stretching the resultant yarn under specific stretching conditions, and subsequently carrying out a treatment at a constant length and a relaxation treatment in a method for direct spinning and stretching.
