PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biofilm releasant of low toxicity, easy to handle, free from possibility of causing corrosion of pipings, equipment, etc., free from foamability, and having a high biofilm-releasing effect on its addition at relatively low levels. SOLUTION: The biofilm releasant is characterized by comprising, as the active ingredient, a compound represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are each a 1-4C straight-chain or branched alkylene group, being the same as or different from each other; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>5</SB>are each H, a halogen atom being the same as or different from each other, a lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R<SB>3</SB>is a 2-12C straight-chain or branched alkylene group; R<SB>6</SB>is a 1-18C straight-chain or branched alkyl; and Z- is an anion dissociable in water).
