PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve Nazarov reaction to provide a method for synthesize a cyclicα-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated ketone compound and a cyclopentenone compound in water. SOLUTION: When the Nazarov reaction is applied to a 2-oxo-1,4-pentadienyl-3-one compound in the presence of a Lewes catalyst in an aqueous solvent, the cyclicα-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated ketone compound is selectively obtained through a different reaction route as that in a case where the reaction is performed in an organic solvent. Also, when a secondary amine is added to the same reaction system, the cyclopentenone compound can similarly be produced as when the reaction is performed in an organic solvent.
