PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly durable lid brake device for a rice cooker capable of surely and stably operating a brake action when opening a lid. SOLUTION: The lid 3 is openably/closably attached to a rice cooker body 1 by a hinge shaft 2, a brake part 22 provided in the lid 3 and a fixed slide contact part 20 facing thereto are provided in the rice cooker body 1 on the rotation radius of the brake part 22, the brake part 22 is brought into slide contact with the fixed slide contact part 20 before the lid 3 reaches a maximum opening angle so as to raise the brake force with the opening of the lid 3, and the brake 22 and the fixing slide contact part 20 facing thereto are provided near the hinge shaft 2. This lid brake device adopts such a constitution that the slide contact angle formed between the brake part 22 in slide contact with the fixed slide contact part 20, and the fixed slide contact part 20 becomes larger, as the lid 3 is opened wider.
