PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pyranoside compound having at least two hydroxy groups thereof protected with a different substituting group. SOLUTION: The pyranoside diester compound represented by general formula (I) is obtained by causing a compound represented by general formula (I) wherein Y is a hydrogen atom to react with an acid halide compound in the presence of a dialkyltin compound and a base. In the formula, R is a 1C-8C alkyl group or an aryl group; X is an acyl group or a sulfonyl group; and Y is a sulfonyl group when X is an acyl group and Y is an acyl group when X is a sulfonyl group.
