PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an ashless coal by which a coal component soluble in a solvent is extracted from a coal raw material inexpensively and with a satisfactory extraction ratio. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ashless coal includes a slurry preparing step for preparing slurry by mixing the coal raw material and the solvent, an extracting step for heating the slurry obtained in the slurry preparing step to extract the coal component soluble in the solvent, a separating step for separating a solution part including the coal component soluble in the solvent and a non-solution part including a coal component insoluble in the solvent from the slurry obtained in the extracting step, and an ashless coal acquiring step for acquiring the ashless coal by separating the solvent from the solution part separated in the separating step, wherein a solvent containing ≥20% biphenyl aromatic hydrocarbons is used as the solvent.
