PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup element, an amplification method, and an imaging apparatus, reduction power consumption by preventing a sensitivity of the solid-state image pickup element from being degraded. SOLUTION: A solid-state image pickup element includes: a pixel part, wherein pixels are arranged in a matrix shape, including a photoelectric conversion element for generating a pixel signal so as to selectively output the pixel signal to a connected signal line; and an amplification part including amplifiers connected to signal lines for amplifying pixel signals, respectively. An amplifier includes:a first variable electrostatic capacitive element; a second variable electrostatic capacitive element connected with the first variable electrostatic capacitive element; and an input part for selectively inputting pixel signals to the first variable electrostatic capacitive element and the second variable electrostatic capacitive element. the solid-state image pickup element is provided which sets electrostatic capacitances of the first variable electrostatic capacitive element and the second variable electrostatic capacitive element to a first value when inputting a pixel signal to the first variable electrostatic capacitive element and the second variable electrostatic capacitive element, and amplifies the pixel signal while setting electrostatic capacitances of the first variable electrostatic capacitive element and the second variable electrostatic capacitive element to a second value smaller than the first value.
