<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a differential device having simple construction for preventing the occurrence of noises by suppressing the displacement of a housing body relative to a cover body. <P>SOLUTION: The differential device comprises a differential mechanism case 11 storing a differential mechanism 12, a differential carrier 21, a bearing retainer 24, a drive pinion 15, and a ring gear 14. On the differential carrier 21 at its opening peripheral edge 21d, a first inclined edge portion is provided which has an inner peripheral end located close to the axis of a first boss portion of the differential mechanism case 11 and far from the axis of a drive pinion 15 and an outer peripheral end located farther from the axis of the first boss portion than the inner peripheral end and closer to the axis of the drive pinion 15 than the inner peripheral end, and a first inclined face formed between the inner peripheral end and the outer peripheral end.
