<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gelled negative electrode for an alkaline battery which includes a gelling agent polymerized in a non-benzene solvent and is excellent on a liquid-retaining function. <P>SOLUTION: The gelled negative electrode 3 includes zinc powder, an alkaline electrolyte, and the gelling agent. The gelling agent is made by a cross-linked polymer (cross-linked type poly (meta) acrylic acid (salt)) formed by radically polymerizing in the non-benzene solvent as a principal component, and a specific surface area of the zinc powder is in a range of 0.025-0.045 m<SP>2</SP>/g. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
