PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a reel in which a coaxial degree of a reel plate and a hub can be secured and the strength of a position regulating part in a metallic mold holding the reel plate is improved, and a reel. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the a manufacturing method of a reel 20 in which a reel plate 46 formed of metal is fixed to the outside of a bottom 28 of a cylindrical hub 22 with a bottom on which a recording tape T is wound at an outer peripheral plane by insert-forming, and the reel plate is formed in a metallic mold 100, insert-forming is performed by position-regulating an outer peripheral end plane 46A of the reel plate 46 by a position regulating part 102 in which an inner peripheral plane 102A is made to be a taper plane in which the inside diameter becomes larger as going to the outside of the bottom 28 of the hub 22. Thereby, at the reel 20, a coating part 47 coating the outer peripheral end plane of the reel plate 46 is formed at a groove 45 formed of the position regulating part 102.
