PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for more efficiently producing a chlorohydrin by reacting a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon such as glycerol etc., and/or a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon ester with a chlorinating agent. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a chlorohydrin, a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or a polyhydroxy group-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon ester is reacted with a chlorinating agent in the presence of at least one or more kinds of compounds selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid and a carboxylic acid derivative and a solid catalyst to greatly increase formation of a chlorohydrin.
