PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display panel driving device capable of preventing any improper operation by correctly discriminating the backlash from catching of foreign matters. SOLUTION: The display panel driving device 1 turns a display panel 17 which is provided turnably. A motor 6 rotates the display panel 17 via a gear. A speed detection unit 3 detects the rotational speed of the display panel 17. A driving state detection unit 7 detects the driving state of the motor 6. A control unit 4 controls the drive of the motor 6. Further, the control unit 4 determines that foreign matters are caught if it is determined from the result of detection by the speed detection unit 3 that the rotation of the display panel 17 is stopped, and it is determined from the result of detection by the driving state detection unit 7 that the rotation of the motor 6 is stopped, and performs the predetermined control to the motor 6. On the other hand, if it is determined that the display panel 17 is stopped and it is determined that the rotation of the motor 6 is not stopped, it is determined that the backlash occurs, and the drive of the motor 6 is continued.
