<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly stop operation of an elevator while reducing deceleration in stopping and suppressing vibration and noise by operating a plurality of braking devices at different timing. <P>SOLUTION: Braking devices 18a-18e are respectively installed on the hoisting machine 11, traction sheave 12, main rope 13, car 14 and counterweight 15 of the elevator 1. When an abnormality detection section 20 detects the abnormality of the elevator 1, an operation control section 21 operates the braking devices 18a-18e in a predetermined order according to order data stored in a table 22.
