PURPOSE: A method for supporting a sleep mode operation and an apparatus thereof are provided to reduce the number of times a traffic indication message is broadcasted. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(200) for supporting a sleep mode operation includes a group determining unit(220), a slip start frame calculating unit(230) and a message transceiver(210). The group determining unit classifies a predetermined frame section into a plurality of groups, and determines a group in which a terminal will be included among the groups when a sleep mode request message is received from the terminal. The slip start frame calculating unit calculates a slip start frame of the terminal so that the terminal can receive a traffic indication message at the same time as terminals belonging to the determined group.
